If you're looking to claim the R&D Tax Incentive, we have put together this page just for you
Quick Links
30 June 2026 — Financial year end. All eligible R&D activities for FY26 (1 July 2025-30 June 2026) can be considered for the application.
April 2027 — R&DTI registration deadline for FY26 (via AusIndustry/DISR portal). Don't leave this to April.
By your tax return due date — R&DTI claim lodged with the ATO as part of your company tax return.
The golden rule: Your contemporaneous records must reflect what was happening at the time. Backdating doesn't work. Start documenting now. Imagine you’re a fancy scientist in a lab coat with a recorder noting your findings / challenges / learnings.
If you are planning to do R&D over the FY27 period, start documenting now. Note:
Before you start experimenting, it helps to define what you're actually testing and why. This gives you a clear hypothesis to document against all year, and it's exactly what AusIndustry wants to see: a genuine attempt to solve a technical problem, not just building a product.
